Welcome to the Winter/Spring Semester of BULLDOGS CHESS!

Hello Parents, teachers and students of St. John Bosco!

Welcome to YOUR CHESS CLUB! I am really honored to be back at the helm as your chess coach and I just want to thank all of you for having me back. This Semester is going to be a lot of fun - I have a lot of neat lessons in store for all of our bright young chess players!

From the Fall 2009 Semester all but two of our club members have returned for this next edition of the Bulldogs chess club. We have a lot of new faces for our first meeting of this new year and it looks like we will have about 20 members in total for our next meeting - week two on February 2nd, 2010. Last Semester we had 14 members so this is quite an increase in terms of the size of our chess club.

This Blog will be a resource for ALL members of the St. John Bosco's Chess Community. Here you will find additional chess content in the form of CHESS PUZZLES, "CHESS HOMEWORK", CHESS GAMES - played by our players and CHESS NEWS from the local Scholastic Chess Scene. Some postings will be aimed at allowing our players to review the puzzles that I presented to them during our club meeting - and will give you a chance to join in on the fun.

For an example of a chess puzzle used for part of our chess lesson today you will find today's puzzle posted on the left hand side of your screen. It came from a game that I drew against a 2215 rated chess master - who was winning until he got careless and allowed me to save half a point. That draw made me very happy - even if it was in a game in three minutes blitz chess game!

If you ever have any questions or suggestions please do not hesitate to contact me - I will always answer your emails within twenty-four hours of receiving them. Likewise you can contact me on my personal cell phone with the number that I have given you and I will gladly return your call - again if I do not immediately pick up then please leave a message and I will return your call within twenty-four hours.

Your Saint John Bosco Bulldogs Chess Coach
Coach Sean Tobin.
